Grants for Employers (Companies)

Does your current employer want to help you upskill?

Los Angeles county based companies who want to sponsor their employee's CDL training may qualify for an Upskill Grant to help offset the cost of truck-driver training.

Grant Availability

Upskill Grants become available at the beginning of California's fiscal year (July 1st). These are first come, first served, which means applying early is important when seeking a financial aid for trucking school.

Grant Qualifications

Employers;

• Must reside in Los Angeles County

• Must have an active business license 

• Must offer a higher paying position to employee in their field of study

Employees;

• If male, must have enrolled in selective services

• Must live in Los Angeles County

• Must have been employed by current employer for a minimum of 6 months

Is there a fee to apply?

There are no fees to apply. 

If all requirements are met, is the grant guaranteed?

No. Meeting all of the requirements for the grant is necessary but grant money disbursement will be dependent on the available monies at the time of your application approval. 

How long is the application process?

Processing times vary, but often, most applications can be processed within 3-4 weeks.

What does the grant cover?

If approved, the employer covers the full cost of the course. Upon the employee's completion of the program, the employer will receive a reimbursement of 50% of the program cost. Employer's who keep employees on payroll while attending the course may qualify for additional reimbursements.

Can the grant be lost?

Yes. Once training begins, students will be required to maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). If SAP is not maintained, the student will be dropped from the program and the grant voided.

Can an employer train more than one (1) employee?

Yes. Groups of employees may participate.
